How Do Houston Flood Zones Affect Custom Home Construction?
Building a new home in Harris County requires careful attention to local flood plains. In 2018, the city updated its building codes to better protect residential properties following historic weather events.
If your lot is located within a 100-year or 500-year flood zone, city ordinances mandate that your home’s lowest floor must be elevated at least two feet above the 500-year flood elevation (also known as the 0.2% annual chance flood level).
